Six years after adopting their son, an infertile couple is contacted by the child's biological mother, a young woman who had to give up her baby as a teenager. A complex and inspiring portrait of motherhood and society.

"One of the most interesting filmmakers in the modern wave of Japanese directors, Naomi Kawase tells one of the most intense family dramas of the year in cinemas. Without mercy, the director delves into the story of a couple who decide to adopt a child after years of trying to get pregnant. From there, diving into an interesting cultural and social cauldron, we better understand the taboo that surrounds the adoption of children in Japan and, above all, the path for that child to reach the life of the couple of protagonists. The story could have been better developed and with less obviousness in the script. However, the melodrama is present and makes the viewer enter a little-seen reality of Japan."
