In this classic German thriller, Hans Beckert, a serial killer who preys on children, becomes the focus of a massive Berlin police manhunt. Beckert's heinous crimes are so repellant and disruptive to city life that he is even targeted by others in the seedy underworld network. With both cops and criminals in pursuit, the murderer soon realizes that people are on his trail, sending him into a tense, panicked attempt to escape justice.

The suspense was made in the 1930s, when sound was a novelty, and manages to be a film with current debates about justice and criminals. The plot is based on the story of the German serial killer Peter Kürten, who committed several murders and sexual assaults in 1929, in the city of Düsseldorf -- so he became known as "The Vampire of Düsseldorf" or the "Monster of Düsseldorf". 'M' manages to explore the morality of the serial killer in an absurd way and still has comic moments. One of the first films on this subject and also, one of the best."
