"Almost 70 years ago, when Josef Stalin died, all of Russia (the Soviet Union at the time) stopped and for a week mourned his death. Thousands of people paid their respects and his funeral was an event of enormous proportions, causing national grief. It is at least curious that the images of such a magnitude event, which was captured by hundreds of cameras from the filmmakers present at the event, have been hidden from general knowledge for so long. Even today, little is known about the Soviet Union without a biased view, and this documentary offers us a little more about this nation. Less a documentary and more a document of a historic moment, 'State Funeral' is created only with archive footage. Immersive, with a sorrowful and introspective atmosphere, we follow the interminable procession, the faces of mourning and the silence that becomes thunderous, 'State Funeral' has an invaluable historical value."
