Spirit Untamed

""Spirit Untamed", the 2002 animation, was an absolute success with critics and audiences alike: it brought tears to many, sparked some good discussions, and was even nominated for an Oscar in the Best Animation category. Years later, Dreamworks partnered with Netflix to "industrialize" the story by turning it into a simple-lined, highly infantilized animated series focused on the little ones. Thus, 19 years after the original movie, Dreamworks brings to the screens the story of "Spirit Untamed". As it happens with adaptations of classic productions, such as "She-Ra", there is a change in language targeting new audiences who only know the Netflix series and are unaware of what was told in the 2002 film - whoever makes comparisons with the movie will be being unfair and inconsistent. As a special episode of the Netflix series, however, it is a competent production: it has its charm, the story is pleasant, and the little ones should be excited about the story of the "untamed horse". It's a shame that the animation is so poor and of few qualities, reminiscent of those animations made exclusively for DVD release. Granted, a good part of the movie was made with the animation team remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic, giving some discount. But it could have been worked on more, especially considering it is one of the main animation studios."
