Two estranged siblings return home to the sprawling ranch they once knew and loved, confronting a deep and bitter family legacy against a mythic American backdrop.

"As soon as 'Montana Story' begins, one of the good surprises of the 2021 Toronto Festival, we understand that the relationship between son (Owen Teague) and father, the latter dying after a stroke, is not very good. Although there is care for the patriarch, there seems to be no affection in the relationship. Things become even clearer when the distant sister (Haley Lu Richardson, brilliant on screen) arrives to spend just one day and say goodbye to her father. Tensions become increasingly evident, pains explode in open wounds and the sister, who wanted to pass like a wind through the ranch, ends up going back because of Mr. T - an old horse from her childhood, which must be sacrificed while everything goes downhill. It is a delicate and emotional film, as the duo Scott McGehee and David Siegel had already shown in previous works such as 'Through Maisie's Eyes'. It could be a little less generic and more daring in some creative decisions, which end up undermining the main objectives of the plot. But the duo's good direction, an equally passionate and melancholic script and good performances raise the overall quality of 'Montana Story'."
