Why watch the movie Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for It?
"For fans of Hollywood cinema, the name Rita Moreno is inevitably associated with the role of Anita in the first adaptation of 'West Side Story', for which she became the first Latin American actress to win an Oscar. However, other aspects of her story are less known, such as her humble origins in Puerto Rico, the sexism, racism, and abuse she suffered in Hollywood, the typecasting she was subjected to by studios for playing ethnic minority roles (even after winning the Oscar), and even a suicide attempt. 'Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for It' is a documentary that, through archival material, dives into the history and career of the legendary actress, one of the few who have achieved the coveted "EGOT" (the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards). It also includes interviews with other talents such as Whoopi Goldberg, Eva Longoria, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, which explore the influence of her inspiring legacy in the industry both for the public and for new generations of Latin American artists."
