"Directed by Argentine Santiago Mitre ('A Cordilheira') and selected for the 2022 Venice Film Festival, 'Argentina, 1985' is a film that portrays one of the most crucial years in the South American country's recent history, when the heads of the military dictatorship were brought to civil trial in a case brought by prosecutor Julio Strassera (the great Ricardo Darín, from 'Relatos Selvagens') and his assistant, Luis Moreno Ocampo (Peter Lanzanil), with the help of a team of young lawyers. With a good script and very secure direction, 'Argentina, 1985' adheres to the conventions of commercial courtroom dramas. But that's not necessarily a bad thing: it results in an emotional film and, above all, accessible to an audience that may not have known firsthand the atrocities of the dictatorship.
