Adonis has been thriving in both his career and family life, but when a childhood friend and former boxing prodigy resurfaces, the face-off is more than just a fight.
"Even within the tired Rocky franchise, the Creed spin-offs managed to bring something new to the table: a story that, without relying (too much) on Rocky himself (Sylvester Stallone), spoke of facing trauma and overcoming it to triumph and move forward. For the third installment, Creed III, this is now entirely the story of Adonis "Donnie" Creed (Michael B. Jordan), who has already retired, has a healthy family life with his wife (Tessa Thompson) and daughter (Mila Davis-Kent), and now trains the next generation of boxers. However, the violence of his past pursues him when Damien (Jonathan Majors), a childhood friend, is released from prison after almost 20 years to prove that he still deserves a chance in the ring. The film, which marks Jordan's directorial debut, continues with themes of trauma and resentment without reinventing the Rocky formula: there are personal tragedies and motivating training montages here and there. There are some interesting stylistic touches that bring freshness (Michael B. Jordan is a notorious anime fan), but the essence is the same: if you're a fan of these films and can forgive a somewhat saturated script, it's definitely for you."
