"From French filmmaker Christophe Honoré (Sorry Angel), Winter Boy is another everyday story where pain, grief, love, and sex converge in an intense emotional cocktail. Framed as a confession or therapy session of its young protagonist, Lucas (Paul Kircher), the story recounts a traumatic period in his life: the sudden death of his father and the abrupt arrival of adulthood, leaving his mother (Juliette Binoche) to spend time with his brother (Vincent Lacoste) in Paris, where he will explore more of his sexuality and a certain sense of independence, but also loneliness. Although excessively melodramatic at times, it is an intense portrait of the mental fragility of a teenager between grief, mental disconnection, and sexual turmoil, with solid direction from Honoré and excellent performances from his main cast."
