Why watch the movie Every Body?
"Directed by Julie Cohen (RBG), Every Body is a documentary that is immediately relevant for celebrating intersex and non-binary identity while also illustrating the everyday struggles of the community. The film features the testimonies of three intersex individuals: River Gallo (known for their role in Love, Victor), politician Alicia Roth Weige, and student Sean Saifa Wal. Through their stories of shame and pain, but also their tireless activism to end non-consensual surgeries, we learn about the importance of becoming aware of their identity. It helps us understand that our society and its gender conventions are not (or should not be) as rigid as we might believe."

Every Body tells the stories of three intersex individuals who have moved from childhoods marked by shame, secrecy, and non-consensual surgeries to thriving adulthoods. Actor and screenwriter River Gallo (they/them), political consultant Alicia Roth Weigel (she/they), and Ph.D. student Sean Saifa Wall (he/him) are now leaders in a fast-growing global movement advocating for greater understanding of the intersex community and an end to unnecessary surgeries. Woven into the story is a stranger-than-fiction case of medical abuse, featuring exclusive footage from the NBC News archives, which helps explain the modern-day treatment of intersex people.
