"Estômago II: O Poderoso Chef tackles a difficult challenge: the continuation of a film beloved by many—and considered a classic by many others. We're talking about Estômago, a 2007 Brazilian film that delves into the story of Raimundo Nonato (played impeccably by João Miguel), a man whose life begins to change through food. The original film explores, above all, the relationship between gastronomy and power, placing this character in situations where a dish says a lot. In this sequel, also directed by Marcos Jorge, who helmed the original, we follow Nonato in prison as he deals with the arrival of Italian mobsters. The sequel lacks the same vitality as the 2007 film, primarily due to the questionable decision to make João Miguel a supporting character in his own story. However, there is still something entertaining here, especially when Jorge revisits the relationship between food and power, and when Nonato returns to being that candid and genuine character we all loved."
