Why watch this film?
In World War II London, nine-year-old George is evacuated to the countryside by his mother, Rita, to escape the bombings. Defiant and determined to return to his family, George embarks on an epic, perilous journey back home as Rita searches for him.
"Blitz is a war drama directed by Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave), which, as the title suggests, takes place during the German bombing campaign of the UK during World War II. The plot follows a boy (Elliot Heffernan) who, like many others during the war, is evacuated from London to a safe place. However, he defies orders and embarks on the dangerous journey back to his mother (Saoirse Ronan), who desperately searches for him after discovering that he didn’t reach his destination. This is perhaps one of McQueen’s more conventional and less daring films, but it remains a heartfelt, powerful, and well-directed drama."
