MMA champion Max Machadada, recovering from an injury, discovers he has an 8-year-old autistic son.
Why watch the movie MMA: Meu Melhor Amigo?
"In MMA – My Best Friend, Marcos Mion transforms his personal experience into a film that blends action and emotion, filled with nods to Rocky, Warrior, and other fight movies. With a sentimental tone and a predictable narrative, MMA may feel idealized, but its real strength lies in the family drama. The film leans on the transformation of a man through fatherly love—a common trope in cinema—but stands out thanks to Mion’s genuine involvement, having helped shape the story based on his own experiences. The film indulges in catharsis and predictability, yet it succeeds in raising awareness about life with autistic individuals. Guilherme Tavares (Chico Bento) is a standout, bringing sensitivity to the portrayal of autism. Despite some forced moments, the film wins over the audience through heartfelt performances and emotion."
