Why watch this film?
A billionaire's death sets off a chain of events for Iris and her friends during a weekend trip to his lakeside estate.
"Companion is a horror and sci-fi thriller that's best not to spoil too much. The story begins with Iris (Heretic's Sophie Thatcher), a young woman deeply in love with her boyfriend (Jack Quaid), who decides to spend a weekend with him and his group of friends at a remote yet luxurious house in the woods. A tragic incident, however, reveals that someone in the group owns a "companion robot," an android that looks human but is designed to fulfill emotional and sexual needs under the complete control of its owner. Thus, the stay turns into a hunt for some and a fight for survival for others. The film works well as a thriller, though it has the minor issue of revealing its outcome from the very beginning. Additionally, its premise is somewhat over-exploited by countless other films. It’s entertaining, but regarding the themes it tries to reflect on, one might question if there are better ways to address them."
