A skilled assassin must choose between duty and love in ancient China.
Why watch the movie The Assassin?
"A Chinese action movie with stunning visuals, bringing the true beauty of its scenery and martial arts. The plot also brings its own poetic and sophisticated beauty, which may frustrate someone accustomed to Hollywood's aesthetics, but will certainly satisfy those seeking long films that value space and leave stories only centered on characters. Much due to this aesthetic and montage, Hsiao-Hsien Hou was elected best director at the Cannes Festival 2015."

The story is simple, if elusive - in 9th-century China, Nie Yinniang is a young woman who was abducted in childhood from a decorated general and raised by a nun who trained her in the martial arts. After 13 years of exile, she is returned to the land of her birth as an exceptional assassin, with orders to kill her betrothed husband-to-be.
