After being re-inaugurated, the starship will investigate a strange phenomenon that destroys everything in its path and is heading for Earth - with James T. Kirk, now an admiral, reassuming command. At the time, the movie was seen as very slow and cerebral, distancing itself from the factors that made ‘Star Wars’ a success and lacking rhythm while posing philosophical questions about life and love. Still, over time it gained cult status among fans, as well as bringing a memorable soundtrack signed by Jerry Goldsmith."
