Taiwanese art teacher Hui-Ling returns to her hometown to mourn her deceased grandmother. She is quickly confronted with the shortcomings of the family history, which echoes the chaotic history of the country, Taiwan, an island which has undergone 4 centuries of colonization and 50 years of dictatorship. Through an artistic assignment that she gives to students, a performance art approach that has lasted for more than 10 years, the face of a nation is gradually emerging, of its collective memory. An island forgotten by the world, which itself has amnesia, yet today it is becoming the front of a potential war between world powers. How will Taiwan be able to reconstruct the identity of its people in the postcolonial era?
