Why watch this film?
'55 Steps' is based a the inspiring true story of Eleanor Riese, a mental illness patient herself, who brings a class action suit to give competent mental patients the right to have a say in their medication while they're in a hospital, and Colette Hughes, the lawyer appointed to her case.
"German production recorded in English and focused on the US market, ’55 Steps’ features a powerhouse duo as its protagonists: Helena Bonham Carter (‘The King’s Speech’) and Hilary Swank (Oscar-winning for ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ and ‘Million Dollar Baby’). The story is based on true events, about a woman's fight for patient rights to know which psychotropic drugs are being administered – and to reject them if necessary. An intense film, one of those to make us think."
