A ballerina illustrates the process of spinal fusion surgery. This short film explores the resilience and strength of the human body through the medium of dance; it also considers the conflict between the brutality and grace of spinal surgery. It was commissioned by BBC New Creatives North. It premiered on BBC Four as part of Dance on Film: BBC Introducing Arts in May 2020. It has since been selected for New Renaissance Film Festival London 2020, Aesthetica Film Festival 2020, and Hebden Bridge Film Festival 2021. Anatomy of A Crooked Spine by Kate Morrison is a Tyneside Cinema production for New Creatives supported by Arts Council England and BBC Arts. The Producer was Naomi Ayres, the Executive Producer was Ian Fenton.
