A teenager discovers a battle-scarred Autobot in a junkyard and helps him heal.
Trailer
Why watch this film?
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee the Autobot finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
"Of all the 'Transformers' movies in theaters, 'Bumblebee' is, to date of its release, the best rated by critics and audience. One of its triumphs is that the director Travis Knight (from 'Kubo and the Two Strings', debuting here in command of a live-action feature film) combines Michael Bay's grandiose and explosive aesthetic with more emotionally charged elements. The script is by Christina Hodson (from 'Obsession Passion') who knows how to quickly create empathy not only between the protagonist Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld, from 'Unstoppable Bravery') and the friendly yellow Volkswagen, but also with the audience. There is also no megalomaniac characteristic of the franchise, but rather a simpler story about maturation, which is easily identifiable. The soundtrack is full of 1980s hits - which has become commonplace in blockbusters, but works in a feature where the main communication channel between the protagonist and the other characters is an old record player."
