In the prologue, the well-respected Dr. Lloyd Jenkins goes after custody of his 12 year old nephew Caleb Jenkins, the son of his sister Shanita Sullivan. Lloyd has always considered himself to be a successful man, however; the ability to not have a son of his own reminded him that his success had its limitations. He would give anything to have a son of his own, even if it meant betraying his sister. He was inwardly angry and bitter that life left him feeling incomplete within, Lloyd needed redemption.
