During 1962's Cuban missile crisis, a troubled math genius finds himself drafted to play in a U.S.-Soviet chess match -- and a deadly game of espionage.

"The Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962 is considered the moment of the Cold War when the United States and the Soviet Union were closest to triggering a nuclear confrontation. That is, the high point of one of the tensest conflicts in modern human history serves as the backdrop for this espionage thriller starring a genius on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Even though the script of 'The Coldest Game' isn't exactly – and also isn't the most exciting – it's interesting to combine a literal and a metaphorical chess duel in an espionage context with a nuclear catastrophe at stake, and Bill Pullman ('Independence Day') manages to convey the tension in one of his best performances since 'Lost Highway' (by David Lynch) and the successful series 'The Sinner'."
