At the Dagmar Theatre in Stockholm, Strindberg is preparing for his one-act play "The Stronger". The author also appears at the rehearsal to clear up some family matters with his estranged wife, Siri, who is also the main character of the play and the director of the theatre. Strindberg learns during the rehearsal that the silent role is played by Siri's girlfriend, according to Strindberg, her corruptor, the tribade Marie David. The presence of the girlfriend and the tragic events of the rehearsal night, stages the complete and total failure of Strindberg and Siri von Essen's marriage.
