Sandra is looking for her mother who's been missing for days. As time goes by, difficulties pile up and she has to seek her half-brother Jorge, they've had little contact. Jorge lives and works with his father installing surveillance systems. At the point Sandra finds him, he's being threatened not to leak a video he made on his phone of a homophobic attack on a male friend to whom he's secretly attracted to.
"At first glance, 'Half Brother' stands out for its setting. Directed by Eliane Coster, experienced in short films, the movie takes place in the outskirts of São Paulo, East Zone. A region that is usually not found in theaters. And more than that: the two young protagonists, children of the same mother, are also not seen frequently on the big screen. She is quiet, downcast and sad about her mother's disappearance. He, meanwhile, tries to be tough and tough, but has a rare sensitivity. From these meetings of different formulas, characters and situations, Coster builds a consistent and emotional story about motherhood, belonging, family. Always with an independent air, without great outbursts and moments, typical of low-budget national cinema. It is no wonder that the film was highly awarded: at the São Paulo International Film Festival, it won the Brazilian Association of Film Critics Award for Best First Film."
