"There are many examples of inspiring movies in which a team that fights against all odds manages to overcome adversity thanks to a coach who goes through his own story of overcoming (‘The Man Who Changed the Game’ is one of those examples). 'The Way Back' is a sports drama with a similar premise, but treated with an even more serious approach, with a protagonist immersed in alcoholism, depression and remorse. It is a solid performance by Ben Affleck (in a role that can also be very personal for the actor, who reported having gone through similar problems in his life). This is a feature-length given to sentimentality and a bit conventional within its type, but it is worth watching if you identify with these themes or need a “comeback” story to be inspired."
