Matt Damon Appeared In A Star-Studded 2010s Sci-Fi Movie That Asked Big Questions

Terry Gilliam's star-studded 2013 film "The Zero Theorem" is cerebral and strange and difficult to describe. Like Gilliam's previous movies "Brazil" and "12 Monkeys," it takes place in a dystopian future wherein cold, calculating corporations rule everything, but this time around, everything is philosophically darker. It's the mid-21st century, and Christoph Waltz plays Qohen Leth, a mathematician and computer wonk who works for a mysterious and bloated entity called Mancom. His job involves "crunching entities" for the company's ontological research division, trying to prove the titular "zero theorem." In brief, he is asked to mathematically prove if life has meaning or not. It's all very heady and abstract.

28 Years Ago, Brad Pitt’s ‘Seven Years in Tibet’ Hit Theaters and Sparked a Political Firestorm

Some films are remembered for their box office, others for their performances. Brad Pitt’s ‘Seven Years in Tibet’ is remembered for both, and for the political storm that followed it, making it one of the most controversial projects of the actor’s career. Directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, the biographical war drama adapts Austrian mountaineer Heinrich Harrer’s 1952 memoir about his years in Tibet. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 13, 1997, where it began building buzz ahead of its theatrical debut. On October 8, 1997, the film officially opened in cinemas in the United States and Canada. Its arrival would soon trigger a fierce reaction from the Chinese government,

‘Seven Years in Tibet’ Arrived in Theaters 28 Years Ago and Instantly Got Brad Pitt Banned From China

Few Hollywood films have caused as much diplomatic heartburn as a mountaineering drama. Brad Pitt was already a bona fide movie star in the late 1990s, but his next project would turn him into an unwelcome guest in one of the world’s biggest film markets. That film was ‘Seven Years in Tibet’, and its legacy is as much about politics as it is about cinema. The movie, directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, came together as an epic with a huge budget and an even bigger sense of scale. It was a sweeping biographical story shot across several continents, built around an unlikely friendship between a mountaineer and a young spiritual leader.
