Hammer Unearths ‘Daughter of Darkness’ and ‘Lady in the Fog’

Hammer is digging deeper into Britain’s post-war shadows for its latest home entertainment releases, pairing a rarely seen Gothic horror with a fog-bound murder mystery as Daughter of Darkness and Lady in the Fog receive newly restored collector’s editions. Leading the announcement is Lance Comfort’s 1948 Daughter of Darkness, which joins the Hammer Presents range following a new 2K restoration created from scans of the original film negatives. The release marks the first time the restoration has been made available anywhere in the world, bringing renewed attention to a British horror film that pushed against the boundaries of its era. Before ‘The Odyssey’ There Was ‘Jason and the Argonauts’ and Ray Harryhausen’s Legendary Monsters

Greek mythology is the talk of the town, or at least of the internet at the moment, and with good reason. Christopher Nolan’s retelling of Homer’s The Odyssey opened this weekend in theaters and, as of this writing, is on track to rake in $120 million in the U.S. and $250 million worldwide. That’s quite a feat for an R-rated sword and sandal epic based on a story that was first put to papyrus over 3,000 years ago. Of course, mythology has been a film standard practically since the beginning of the medium and has proven to be fertile ground for storytellers. One of the great tellers of these

Goldfinger, the third of the official 007 movies starring Sean Connery, saw him co-star opposite Blackman, Gert Frobe as Goldfinger and Shirley Eaton as Jill Masterson. Goldfinger Star Honor Blackman Hated Being Called A Bond Girl

Honor Blackman played one of the most memorable and tenacious Bond "girls" in all of 007 history. Unsurprisingly, though, she hated the term "Bond girl," for the way in which it seemed to denigrate the ladies behind some of the best characters in all of the James Bond movies. For Blackman, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 94, using the unfortunately widespread term seemed to suggest Bond's female counterparts were nothing more than "bimbos," when her very own turn in 1964's "Goldfinger" is proof to the contrary. "Goldfinger" is still seen by many fans as the quintessential 007 movie. It introduced so many of the tropes we think of
