Timo Tjahjanto To Direct Action Comedy ‘The Burnout’ For Miramax

Exclusive: Fresh off directing The Beekeeper 2 for Miramax, Timo Tjahjanto has come aboard to direct The Burnout for the studio, sources tell Deadline. Interesting comps here: The Burnout is billed as The Big Lebowski meets Jason Bourne. In the film, a washed-up former CIA agent, now living as a carefree burnout in Ibiza, is reluctantly dragged back into action. With its “back-in-action” framing, the film also feels in the vein of the Nobody actioners starring Bob Odenkirk, the second of which was directed by Tjahjanto. Sources said the script — by Tom O’Connor, with current revisions by Hunter Toro — was brought into Miramax by Arianna D’Andrea, VP Film Production & Development. Jason Statham is back in shark-infested waters, and this time, Netflix UK subscribers can join the feeding frenzy. His 2018 creature thriller The Meg has resurfaced on the British streaming catalogue, offering a gloriously over-the-top alternative to Brian Duffield’s new ocean-survival drama Whalefall. However, the film is not currently available on Netflix US, according to Flixboss’ American catalogue tracker.
