Russell Crowe’s ‘Memento’ Meets ‘True Detective’ Crime Thriller Is Coming to Paramount+

A murder mystery absolutely adores having an unreliable protagonist, for that's where a lot of the mystery can come from. And when you take away the detective's ability to trust his own memories and suddenly every clue becomes suspect, that gives you the game played by a recent Russell Crowe (Gladiator) thriller that mixes shades of Memento with the grim detective work of True Detective. Sleeping Dogs is coming to Paramount+ in the United States on October 1. Released in 2024 and directed by Adam Cooper, the crime thriller adapts E.O. Chirovici's novel The Book of Mirrors and puts Crowe at the center of a murder investigation that he has effectively already forgotten.

Russell Crowe's Sleeping Dogs: From Box Office Flop To Streaming Sensation

After a quiet $2.1 million theatrical release, Sleeping Dogs has become a streaming hit. The 2024 crime thriller stars Russell Crowe in the lead role but, like many of his recent movies, made little noise at the box office, making just over $2 million. Now, two years later, Sleeping Dogs ranks ninth in the Top 10 movies on Paramount+ in the United States for today, January 19, per FlixPatrol. It ranks above The Contractor in 10th and below Top Gun: Maverick, Fighting, Wander, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, The Running Man (1987), Regretting You, Roofman, and The Running Man (2025) at No. 1. Sleeping Dogs also ranks 10th in the Top 10 overall on Paramount+ in the United States for today,

Sleeping Dogs Review: Russell Crowe Lays It on Thick in Forgettable Memento Clone

Intentionally or not, Sleeping Dogs invites comparison to Memento. In Adam Cooper’s steadfastly self-serious directorial debut, a bedraggled ex-homicide detective, Roy Freeman (Russell Crowe), is tasked with solving a brutal murder that he can’t recall due to his memory loss. But the comparison to Christopher Nolan’s breakout doesn’t do Sleeping Dogs any favors. For one, we know we’re in trouble from the moment we see Freeman stumbling through a decrepit apartment, its otherwise sparse walls adorned with handwritten messages that exist as much for his benefit as ours, like the unfortunately hilarious “You Have Alzheimers.” From the start, the film lays it on thick. Freeman’s apartment has all the markers of someone whose mind is slowing deteriorating: staplers that have been left in water glasses, melted pieces of technology in the microwave, and half-eaten meals on top of furniture. The man wears the thickest

Poker Face (2022) – A Russell Crowe Movie – Review

Poker Face is a movie co-written, directed and starring Russell Crowe that also counts with starring roles played by Liam Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky. A movie that plays many cards, but never centers itself on the actual game. Premise Jake Foley is a 57 year-old tech tycoon who has a weakness for poker. He decides to reunite his friends from yonder year for a high-stakes game of poker. The gathering will be less enjoyable than anticipated, as old secrets emerge, rivalries surface, and thieves intrude in the midst of the soirée. Poker Face (2022) Official Trailer Movie Review A thriller that takes its time (a long time) to show itself and maneuver as a thriller, and that once it reaches that point it goes on thriller overdrive, betraying the initial tempo. As you know, there are no written rules in this industry, and one might succeed if one innovates enough, or if
