The Girl in the River review – forensic psychologist police procedural thriller plays like noir parody

Ralph Macchio and Tiffany Haddish feature in a ropey and implausible manhunt thriller as cops search for the missing twin of a murdered teenager This small-town police thriller sets its stall out intriguingly, with a murder that seems actively begging to be solved. The perp chose to dump his victim – the 14-year-old daughter of a local political bigwig – into a part of the Mississippi River where she was likely to resurface, and from a highly visible bridge. When veteran detective Alan Kramer (Devon Sawa) and rookie forensic psychologist Amelia Pembrock (Maggie Grace) show up to investigate, they are immediately alerted to a gun in the bushes just yards away. Taylor Sheridan Star's New 'Yellowstone' Replacement Officially Starts Filming

There aren’t many sports where going 200 mph while surrounded by dozens of other cars is the most relaxing part of the day. That's because stock car racing has produced generations of drivers, dynasties, rivalries, and enough nonsense off the track to fill books and TV series for years. AMC Global Media has officially announced that production is underway in Georgia on Thunder Road, its new racing drama starring Dennis Quaid (The Substance) and Chase Stokes (Outer Banks). The Girl in the River Review: The Case Solves Itself

Brando Benetton seems to have studied the crime thriller as if it were a language exam: corpse in river, damaged veteran, gifted rookie, wealthy family, suspicious butcher, final revelation. He knows the vocabulary. The difficulty is that fluency requires saying something. His feature debut, The Girl in the River, sends forensic psychology expert Amelia Pembrock to a small Mississippi town after fourteen-year-old twins Greta and Anna Otto disappear. Greta’s body is recovered from the river, her teeth damaged after death. Anna is still missing. Amelia, played by Maggie Grace, was the top cadet in her class but has avoided field work, so Captain Erica Graysmith pairs her with Alan Kramer,
