‘The Shawshank Redemption’: Darabont on King Sized Goal

Image Source: Warner Bros Frank Darabont had a point to make with The Shawshank Redemption. Stephen King was the Carrie guy, the Shining guy, the Cujo guy. Audiences knew he could terrify them. A prison drama about friendship and hope, though? That was a different King entirely. Darabont had loved King’s work for years and knew the author had plenty of stories with no monsters and nothing going bump in the night. One of them became Shawshank, the 1994 film with Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. What still surprises people is how slowly audiences found it. Strong reviews did not save its theatrical run. It took home video and cable

Tim Robbins has made his directorial debut, Bob Roberts, free to watch online

With indie films disappearing, Tim Robbins has the rights to his first feature as director – Bob Roberts – and has made it available for free. This is interesting. At a point where film distribution of smaller, independent films is one fo the not talked about enough problems in the modern day, Tim Robbins appears to have taken matters into his own hands. In 1992, he directed for the first time, the political satire Bob Roberts. It’s a biting, really good film, that also includes a terrific turn from Alan Rickman I have a vague memory of Columbia Tristar once upon a time putting the VHS out in the UK around the time.

Johnny Depp's Only Stephen King Movie Is a (Very) Intense 96-Minute Thriller Taking Over Streaming

Stephen King adaptations tend to collect movie stars the way other franchises collect sequels, and over five decades the list has grown to include Jack Nicholson, Kathy Bates, Tim Robbins, Tom Hanks, and just about every leading man of a certain vintage. Johnny Depp, oddly enough, only ever passed through King country once. That's a little surprising in hindsight, since the author's fixation on tormented writers and fraying psyches would seem tailor-made for an actor who built a career on characters coming apart in interesting ways. The one collaboration they do share arrived in 2004, right as Depp was at the peak of his post-Pirates of the Caribbean fame, and
