Why watch this film?

Many may say that any epic is exaggerated - see the grand battles of 'The Lord of the Rings', the striking special effects of 'Ben-Hur', the emotional journey of 'Braveheart'. But they are punctual exaggerations, well thought out, and which eventually make sense in the plot as a whole. 'True History of the Kelly Gang' is one of those epics that goes beyond, that ends up exaggerating the performances and the intensity of the production. After all, director Justin Kurzel (of 'Macbeth: Ambition and War') plunges into a sea of insanity and madness to tell the true story of Ned Kelly (George MacKay), a boy raised in a difficult environment and who quickly becomes a legend in Australia. After all, more than committing crimes and murders, this outlaw wants revenge for the unjust imprisonment of his mother and, in some way, to make his dysfunctional family finally respected in the country. It's an intense movie, often more than it should be. But it should please those looking for real stories full of grand moments, a handful of violence and special performances by MacKay ('1917'), Russell Crowe ('Gladiator') and Charlie Hunnam ('King Arthur').
