Why watch this film?

Egor Abramenko's debut feature film does not hide its inspiration from the undisputed classic 'Alien: The Eighth Passenger' by Ridley Scott. However, this modernized Russian mutation unfolds on its own terms. Set in 1983, it offers us a science fiction story with touches of horror and at the same time makes a deeper comment on the darkness that existed in the former USSR during the Cold War. The authenticity and attention to detail in 'Sputnik: Strange Passenger' is reminiscent of the production design of the successful HBO miniseries 'Chernobyl', which is not surprising given that both stories take place in the same timeline and in the same place: the Soviet Union. The film's artistic conception and production design are remarkable. Definitely an effective and sinister movie.
