Why watch this film?
Despite 'The Kid' having the Portuguese title 'Billy The Kid: O Fora da Lei', don't be fooled: this feature film by actor Vincent D'Onofrio is not about the famous Old West outlaw - here played very well by Dane DeHaan ('The Cure'). In fact, the Kid of the title refers to Rio (Jake Schur), an unknown boy who kills his father after physical abuse against his mother. Thus, Billy The Kid only comes in as a supporting character, like an accident on the way of this young boy who now needs to flee from his uncle to save his skin. It's a confusing and rhythmless movie, which doesn't know which direction to go as the plot progresses. In the end, it ends up being more drama than western. The absolute highlight is Ethan Hawke ('Before Sunrise'), who plays the role of the sheriff working on capturing Billy The Kid well.
