The Sacrifice

In a world at war, a man seeks peace through sacrifice.

Trailer

Why watch this film?

Worthy of four awards at the Cannes Film Festival and the BAFTA for Best Foreign Film, 'The Sacrifice' is the final film of Russian filmmaker Andréi Tarkovski, one of the greatest and most influential of all time, finished while the director was fighting lung cancer (which he succumbed to a few months after its release). It is an apocalyptic and moving narrative, visually striking, which presents allegories about penitence and self-sacrifice, the human soul and its deepest desires pushed to the most radical extreme. Faithful to the contemplative cadence of its director and endowed with an extensive footage, it is a demanding movie, but undoubtedly one of the greatest works in the history of cinema, capable of remaining forever in the memory of those who dare to watch it.
