Why watch this film?

What a pleasant surprise 'Raia 4' is, from Emiliano Cunha, the director of the shorts 'Endotermia' and 'Lobos'. Here, the Gaucho filmmaker decides to venture into dangerous territory: telling the story, in the best coming-of-age style, of a typical teen. She's getting to know her own body, its limits, loneliness, helplessness, and friendships. Dangerous territory, indeed. After all, Emiliano Cunha has never been a girl, despite having the experiences of an adolescent, and he doesn't know what the most intimate dilemmas these girls face are. Still, he managed to extract sensitivity and do what a good screenwriter and director does: live that story, understand the characters. Like Bo Burnham in 'Eighth Grade'. Here, more specifically, we enter the story of Amanda (Brídia Moni), a 12-year-old girl who is going through this puberty process while also facing new friendships and a swimming competition. It is in the pool, by the way, that she finds her greatest ghosts. The teacher, at first, immediately says that her body is going to start changing. From there, we follow these pains and dilemmas with a naturalness that is impressive.
