Why watch this film?

In 2004, Brazilian viewers were enchanted by a cult pearl of national cinema: the interesting 'Árido Movie', about a weather reporter who returns to his hometown located in the middle of a huge drought. It's a great movie. Seventeen years later, and with a pandemic at the time of release, filmmaker Lírio Ferreira returns to the story with 'Acqua Movie'. Here, the aforementioned weather reporter (Guilherme Weber) dies. Right at the beginning of the film. Soon after, we follow the son Cícero (Antonio Haddad Aguerre) and mother (Alessandra Negrini) joining in grief, loss, emptiness. They then set off on a journey towards the São Francisco River to throw the ashes of the patriarch - while, at the same time, they take a pass at the reporter's hometown and which, now, is controlled by Múcio (Augusto Madeira). For those who like comparisons, the story is clearly inferior to the first feature, with much less weight in the plot and more concern with the look of the thing. There is, therefore, more strength in the script, which ends up being just a wisp of road movie, as we are already used to seeing. What stands out here is mainly Negrini's performance and a subtext about indigenous people. Even filmed in 2018, the feature remains current years later, putting the spotlight on a poignant and important issue on the screens.
