Awarded with the Silver Bear for Best Direction at the 2019 Berlin Film Festival, 'I Was at Home, But...' is an enigmatic domestic drama from actress and filmmaker Angela Schanelec ('Marseille') that strips away the histrionic artifices of more popular genre offerings but is endowed with such precise minimalist craftsmanship and a calculated rhythm that it’s absorbing. That rhythm can be somewhat challenging, but the film rewards viewers with doses of absurd humor and, above all, piercing human truths that are open to multiple interpretations.
