Why watch this film?
"How I Became a Superhero" has a very similar premise to another recent Netflix release, "Power" (starring Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt), which is also a story about a cop on the trail of a drug that gives its users superpowers. The most notable difference between the two is the approach, which in this one is darker, focusing more on suspense than action. This French film brings a refreshed approach to the superhero genre, proposing a new way to develop the theme. With well-constructed sequences of tension and an engaging narrative, the movie should please viewers. Its biggest problem is that it gets lost a bit in the small details of creating its world, lacking a certain care and the story could be more polished. Still, it brings a new garment to the genre and brings glimpses of originality, providing a positive and interesting experience.

With shades of Dan Brown and a script by Jean Claude Van Damme himself, alongside Les Weldon (screenwriter of another action star film, Replicant), the movie is what every fan of the Belgian actor wants: brawling, with a fun plot, and never boring.
