Why watch this film?
'Titane' is certainly one of the most provocative - and we can say, one of the strangest - films of the 2021/22 world cinema season. That's why it's not a feature film for everyone. Now, don't be fooled: all this is indeed a quality. Director Julia Ducournau (from 'Raw') builds a movie that traverses between terror, suspense and drama, surprising the viewer - whether with powerful imagery or with a complete change in the direction of the story. In this way, we have a film with a distorted, even disturbed vision, touching on themes such as hatred and disconnection from others, traumas, paternal love, motherhood, gender identity and fetishism - whether for the perfect body, for cars or even for fire. For all this, 'Titane' is one of those works that will make you reflect for a long time, without suffering from the ephemerality of more commercial productions. Highlight for the great presence of Vincent Lindon ('The Value of a Man'), one of the most recognized faces of current French cinema, and for the powerful performance of Agathe Rousselle, who, even debuting in a feature film, manages to traverse very well all the themes and changes of course of the script. Not surprisingly, it won the prestigious Palme d'Or at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.

This horror movie is literally not for the faint of heart. With strong and realistic scenes, part of the audience got sick during the screening at the Toronto Festival. 'Raw' is an impressive French horror, very well filmed, with good performances and a round script, full of symbolism. For those who like genre films, it's a full plate... of human flesh - if you'll excuse the pun.
Junior
French filmmaker Julia Ducournau, who would later surprise with 'Raw' and be consecrated with the Cannes Golden Palm for 'Titane', debuted with this short film. The story is about Justine (Garance Marillier), a 13-year-old girl nicknamed "Junior", who has traditionally considered very masculine attitudes and humor, joining boys to insult other girls. However, everything changes when she is diagnosed with a strange gastroenteritis, unraveling a grotesque transformation in her. Although it is a short with an independent production cut, 'Junior' already shows all the obvious marks in the director's later feature films, particularly the use of body horror conventions to tell a story about the transformations of the female body in reaching sexual maturity.
Thriller
Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 is the unlikely sequel to the feature film that placed the characters of this playful and childlike universe into a world of violence and horror. However, don't expect a production as weak as the previous film: with the success of the first installment at the box office, the production had more money to invest, and thus Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 manages to be more realistic, violent, and impressive compared to the first film. The characters' masks are much scarier, and it ceases to be a complete joke. It's still difficult to take the film entirely seriously, especially with this bizarre premise of Pooh and his friends seeking bloody revenge, but you can already feel more fear and, above all, immerse yourself in the wave of violence that the film promotes. To have fun with friends.
