Why watch this film?

Where did fascism come from? Not the institutionalized kind, put in place by names like Mussolini or Hitler, but the kind that is born in everyday life, within society? The so-called Serpent's Egg. It is precisely about this subject that the excellent Chilean feature film 'Araña' focuses on. Directed by Andrés Wood ('Violeta Went to Heaven'), the film tells the story of Inés (Mercedes Morán as an adult, María Valverde as a youth), a woman who was not only involved, but also organized right-wing extremist acts around Chile in search of the "end of socialism". Strong and necessary, the feature film surprises with a story that crosses borders and generations, making sense even for Brazil in 2020. It is not an easy movie, nor is it easy to understand -- Andrés, from the first scene, when he shows a man running over a thief and being applauded, counts on the audience's interpretive sense. But, whoever reaches the end and understands what the filmmaker is showing, almost desperately in the Chilean community, can feel all the anguish and understanding that, as we saw in 'Nova Ordem', our society is sick.
