Why watch this film?
It's realistic to say that this isn't the best western in the world, but it is a low-budget production that fulfills its purpose of entertaining. After all, we want to find out if protagonist Britt MacMaster can save his 12-year-old son from the gang led by Jed Blake. 'Catch the Bullet' delivers good action scenes and a story that hooks the viewer. Furthermore, this is also the last completed work of actor Jay Pickett ('General Hospital'), who passed away in July 2021.

Plot summary
Britt MacMasters, a U.S. Marshal, returns from a mission to find his father wounded and his son, Chad, kidnapped by the outlaw Jed Blake. Hot on their trail, Britt forms a posse with a gunslinging deputy and a stoic Pawnee tracker. But both Jed and Britt tread dangerously close to the Red Desert’s Sioux territory, which poses a menace far greater than either can imagine.

A Soldier's Revenge

The Settlers (Los colonos), directed by Felipe Gálvez, is a Chilean film that appropriates the conventions of the revisionist western to explore a often marginalized side of Chile's colonialist history. The plot revolves around a landowner who hires an expedition to demarcate his property and open a path through Patagonia to the Atlantic Ocean. Who makes up the expedition? A young Chilean mestizo, an American mercenary, and an English lieutenant—a uneasy mix that generates tensions. Although scattered in tone and narrative, The Settlers is visually impressive and serves as a good starting point if you want to learn more about European colonization in Latin America, the repercussions of which are still felt today.
Dead for a Dollar
Directed by veteran of the Western and action cinema, Walter Hill (Revenge, Deadwood), Dead for a Dollar (Muerto por un dólar) is an austere and classic Western in its narrative. The story follows a bounty hunter veteran who must cross into Mexico to save the wife of a millionaire, but soon discovers that she is actually running from him and he must decide whether to protect her or return her. At times the budget shortages are noticeable, but its narrative explores a historically ungenerous era –and genre– with women and people of color. That, plus good performances by Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse), Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) and Christoph Watz (Inglourious Basterds) make it worth a chance.
