Little Joe

A scientist creates a plant that promises happiness, but it's not as harmless as it seems.

Trailer

Why watch this film?

Starring Emily Beecham ('Cruella'), Ben Whishaw ('Paddington') and Kit Connor, ('Rocketman'), 'Little Joe: la flor de la felicidad' is an unsettling mix of horror, drama, science fiction and fantasy. Alice and her team create a genetically modified plant that disperses its seeds and seems to cause strange changes in living beings. Little by little they discover that the plant is not as harmless and beneficial as they thought, and it ends up becoming a threat to its owners. Of outstanding rareness, the terror it proposes has to do with our inability to understand our different and varied emotions, and with that goal so perverse as to be happy at all costs. A kind of thoughtless and burden-free happiness. This movie competed for the Palme d'Or at Cannes and its director, Jessica Hausner ('Amour Fou'), proposes an intelligent and disturbing analysis about motherhood, materialism, contemporary anxiety and the dangers of science. A fresh (and very hygienic) look at horror and science fiction.
