Trailer

Why watch this film?

Curious psychological thriller about a boy (Charlie Shotwell) who keeps his family captive in a hole in the ground. With references to Greek cinema of Yorgos Lanthimos, 'John and the Hole' is easily relatable to 'The Lobster' due to its strangeness and genuine performance of the actors. Shotwell is impeccable in his character - and the rest of the cast, with Michael C. Hall ('Dexter'), Taissa Farmiga ('The Nun') and Jennifer Ehle ('Saint Maud') don't stay behind. John, the protagonist, shows throughout the movie that he is struggling with maturity, which makes him develop a sociopathic personality. The photography is great, with a slow but well-crafted rhythm that keeps you more and more curious. Pascual Sisto's direction is timely, dry and engaging. It is worth mentioning that this is his debut in a feature film, completing the script by Nicolás Giacobone, Oscar winner for 'Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)'.
