Ridley Scott, of films such as 'Gladiator', yields to camp and absurdity in this ironic story, based on facts, about the Gucci family. Many know the brand as one of the world's largest fashion houses, but few know the family's plots. The feature follows the relationship between Patrizia (Lady Gaga) and Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), which, from a fairy tale, became a great terror. Gaga delivers here an Oscar-worthy performance, even overshadowing Driver's presence in the scene, becoming increasingly a strong name in the film industry. The singer and actress presents a caricature of the former wife of the owner of the Gucci empire, so extravagant that it is hard to imagine that she actually existed. Another character that seems to have been created for a movie is Jared Leto (who is unrecognizable) as Maurizio's cousin, Paolo Gucci. Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons and Salma Hayek complete the great cast. 'House of Gucci' is a beautiful tragicomic novela, quite tacky, diverging well from Scott's filmography and showing that he can renew himself at 83 years old.

All the Money In the World
With poetic license, director Ridley Scott ('Lost in Mars' and 'Gladiator') reconstructs one of the most peculiar cases of the 1970s: the kidnapping of J. Paul Getty's grandson, the richest man in the world at that time - and who decides to bargain with the extortion made by the kidnappers. The script, by David Scarpa (and based on John Pearson's book), manages to capture our attention, but the highlight is Christopher Plummer's great performance in the role of the miserly millionaire, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. The curious thing is that Plummer was called in a hurry, already in post-production, to shoot his character's scenes in just ten days. Originally the role was Kevin Spacey's, who was replaced after being accused of sexual abuse.
Blade Runner: The Final Cut
One of the most influential films of all time, this sci-fi packed with philosophical motives was released in Brazil as 'Blade Runner, The Android Hunter' in a first cut version by the studio. Years later, it got two new editions, finally aligned to the director Ridley Scott's wishes. 'The Final Cut' is the most complete one, leaving more visible the narrative depth and audio-visual splendor of a slow movie filled with details, that asks for the viewer's close attention in every moment. Nominated for two Oscars, one Golden Globe and winner of three BAFTA awards.
Robin Hood
The legend of Robin Hood, the man who stole from the rich to give to the poor, has had more than a dozen movie adaptations. The most famous one might be Disney's animation, in which a fox plays the role of the vigilante. There is also an acclaimed version with Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman. In 'Robin Hood', a 2010 production directed by Ridley Scott (of 'Alien: The Eighth Passenger'), the traditional story takes on dark and realistic tones, following the then-successful 'Batman' franchise under Christopher Nolan's command. With a great cast, featuring names like Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Oscar Isaac and Max Von Sydow, the feature film delves into the realism of this story and, on top of that, facilitates a current interpretation by viewers. It's not the best movie about the vigilante's journey, nor Scott's most original production. But it's interesting to see the intricacies of this other possibility of Robin Hood.
The Last Duel
At first, 'The Last Duel' sells the idea of being another Ridley Scott (responsible for 'Gladiator') epic of gladiators, but it is not just that. Inspired by the homonymous book by medieval literature specialist Eric Jager, the movie tells the story based on facts of Marguerite de Carrouges - brilliantly played by Jodie Comer -, a woman who was morally and socially judged by France for having denounced a rape. As women were treated as a product in the 14th century, her fate is at the mercy of a duel demanded by her husband, Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon), against the man who committed the crime against Marguerite, Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver). The big question is that if Carrouges loses the dispute, his wife will be punished in the worst possible way: being burned alive. Despite the slow development, which counts three versions of the same story, Ridley Scott brings an excellent movie, which only fails to give little space to female characters - which is contradictory being a production that makes a complaint about the machismo present in society. Jodie Comer is a force of nature in 'The Last Duel': even if she deserved even more scenes, she manages to impress in every moment. It is worth warning that it is an extremely difficult movie to watch if you are a woman: there are rape scenes, which can clearly be a trigger and, perhaps, there should be a warning for this type of content.
Alien
A movie that redefined the horror and sci-fi genres, and can be considered Ridley Scott's masterpiece. The director commanded all cameras used during the shoot - many movies are filmed by assistant directors. The protagonist Sigourney Weaver was the first woman to portray an action heroine in a franchise! 'Alien: The Eighth Passenger' is, without a doubt, a milestone in the history of cinema.
Gladiator
Epic movie directed by Ridley Scott, that puts us right in the height of the Roman Empire in a story full of treachery, action, and blood. If you have ever seen it, rewatch now with a special eye for the grand soundtrack composed by Hans Zimmer.
Napoleon
After two frustrated attempts to bring Napoleon Bonaparte's complete story to the big screen, one by French filmmaker Abel Gance and another by the brilliant Stanley Kubrick, director Ridley Scott finally conquers this curse with Napoleon, one of the great productions of 2023. His Napoleon, a production of Sony and Apple, arrives with all the pomp possible: it's an epic of over 2 and a half hours, with grand battle scenes that never try to abbreviate the journey of the French emperor at any point. The film begins with his victory at the Siege of Toulon, one of the most impressive battles in history, until his downfall at Waterloo. It's the complete life, supported on a very complicated tripod: the military front of Napoleon's life, with all those battles that shook Europe; the political front, with his unexpected rise to the French throne even after the French Revolution; and one of his most curious aspects falls on his love life, with a passion for Josephine (Vanessa Kirby). Right from the start, thus, it becomes even a bit obvious what the Achilles' heel of this immense Scott production is: the need to cover too long a period of Napoleon's life, who did too much in life, in just 2 and a half hours. Perhaps, a much more precise cut in the script by David Scarpa (Scott's partner in All the Money in the World) is missing, which ends up getting tangled in too much story to tell. It's politics, it's family, it's war, it's romance, it's betrayal. Fortunately, the cast helps to diminish the feeling that things are falling apart: Joaquin Phoenix (Joker) plays a Napoleon who brings his insecurities embedded in his trembling and stuttering voice, always wanting to prove himself; and Kirby, who had already shone in Pieces of a Woman, once again delivers a magnetic performance, convincing as the seductive Josephine. Not to mention the impressive war scenes, which help set the tone and show that Scott, even if he occasionally errs, still knows how to make good cinema.

Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 is the unlikely sequel to the feature film that placed the characters of this playful and childlike universe into a world of violence and horror. However, don't expect a production as weak as the previous film: with the success of the first installment at the box office, the production had more money to invest, and thus Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 manages to be more realistic, violent, and impressive compared to the first film. The characters' masks are much scarier, and it ceases to be a complete joke. It's still difficult to take the film entirely seriously, especially with this bizarre premise of Pooh and his friends seeking bloody revenge, but you can already feel more fear and, above all, immerse yourself in the wave of violence that the film promotes. To have fun with friends.
