Abel Ferrara is one of those directors that people either love or hate. There's no middle ground here. After all, the American filmmaker has his own style, slow, provocative and contemplative, already shown in stories like 'King of New York', '4:44: The End of the World' and 'Pasolini'. In 'Zeros and Ones', Ferrara dives into the story of American soldier JJ (Ethan Hawke) serving in Rome and embarking on a journey to discover and defend himself against an unknown enemy that threatens the whole world. With his usual style, there is a mixture of the story with the pandemic climate that the whole world has witnessed in recent years. It is, after all, an apocalyptic film by Ferrara, using and abusing symbolic images that translate the uncertainty of these times through beautifully photographed scenes. Ethan Hawke, as always, delivers a tailor-made performance with complex characters within this pessimistic scenario of Abel Ferrara.

Siberia
As soon as the credits of 'Siberia' roll, only one word comes to mind: sensory. This is the best adjective for this new production by Abel Ferrara, one of the most beloved filmmakers of the cinephile community and who, here, directs a film inspired by the 'Red Book', the masterpiece of Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung - a crazy project, since the book has no plot or anything concrete, being formed only by ideas, reflections and thoughts of the father of analytical psychology in beautiful pages. Starring Willem Dafoe again, Ferrara's partner in the good 'Tommaso' and 'Pasolini', the feature has the merit of, like Jung's book, having no plot. It is pure essence, from beginning to end, like a Malick film. After all, the feature proposes to be a dive into the dreams, memories, afflictions and subconscious of its protagonist (Dafoe). He lives in torment and here Ferrara seeks to devastate the audience by putting these films together with yearnings also from those sitting in front of a TV, watching the story. 'Siberia', finally, seeks to be a dialogue between the parts without ever making it clear, exactly, what it is talking about.

The script is based on the real-life exploits of martial arts champ Frank Dux, who serves as the film's fight coordinator.
