Why watch this film?

In 1947, Jack Roosevelt "Jackie" Robinson became the first African American player in Major League Baseball, the main league of the sport in the United States - breaking down prejudice and segregation that existed in baseball, becoming one of its greatest idols. In '42', Chadwick Boseman brings to life the athlete and does an excellent job. The feature film only recounts a small part of the protagonist's life, but it is still his most important moment: when he emerges in the minor leagues and has his first year of MLB. A very inspiring and moving movie.

Plot summary

In 1946, Branch Rickey put himself at the forefront of history when he signed Jackie Robinson to the team, breaking Major League Baseball's infamous color line. Facing unabashed racism from every side, Robinson was forced to demonstrate tremendous courage and restraint by not reacting, instead letting his talent on the field do the talking — ultimately winning over fans and his teammates, silencing his critics, and paving the way for others to follow. In 1997, Major League Baseball retired the number 42 for all teams, making it the first number in sports to be universally retired.
