Why watch this film?

What a pleasant surprise 'Las leyes de la frontera' is, an exclusive Netflix feature film. Directed by Daniel Monzón (of 'Cela 211'), who also signs the script alongside Jorge Guerricaechevarría, the movie focuses on the story of Nacho (Marcos Ruiz), a boy who doesn't fit in and can't find peace. After all, on the one hand, he suffers constant bullying from a group of boys. On the other, there is this attempt of him to understand himself, to free himself. It's a complicated feeling and the character, carried by Ruiz's good performance and the good script, manages to convey truth through the screen. We feel, in the first twenty minutes, Nacho's latent pain. Things take a turn, and the movie gains unexpected strength when Nacho makes friends with two strangers who appear in his life - Tere (Begoña Vargas) and Zarco (Chechu Salgado). The apparent couple seems to be there to cause trouble. Nacho gets in the middle of the story. He wants to know what's going on. And so he becomes part of Tere and Zarco's gang. They start with small robberies here and there. Until it can no longer support just the money stolen from a small place, from a bank break. It becomes bigger. Monzón delivers a good performance. Just like Cuarón's 'Roma', 'Las leyes de la frontera' is a movie bathed in memories and nostalgia, not all of them good. There is a lot of suffering in the unfolding of the Netflix feature, which emerges from the moment Nacho finds himself too much in this group. The passion that awakens for Tere, engaged to Zarco, is the extra seasoning the movie needed. Begoña Vargas's seductive yet ingenuous performance is one of the engines of the movie. With her passionate yet somewhat lost look, Tere not only makes Nacho drift away, but also the viewer, getting stuck on the screen for two hours.
