Why watch this film?
Director Ben Hozie's debut, 'PVT Chat', is a drama that takes on a close and realistic aesthetic to tell the story of a New York gambler who establishes (or thinks he has established) a relationship with a San Francisco "camgirl", only for his obsession to spiral out of control when he finds her on the street one rainy night. It's the kind of movie that isn't afraid to dive into the vicissitudes of relationships in the digital age, and how our perception of events – and in this case, of intimacy – is absolutely affected by technology mediation. Even if it won't add much to knowledgeable viewers, it's certainly a movie that offers needed reflections on our current way of relating. Both leads, Peter Vack ("Brittany Runs a Marathon") and Julia Fox ("Uncut Gems"), are sensational.
