Why watch this film?

The refugee crisis that erupted in the 2010s is no surprise to anyone. Thousands of people, mainly from the Middle East to Europe, die during the crossing or even in camps arbitrarily created by countries as a destination for these people without a land to call their own. Homeless. But the refugee crisis is something prior, with wounds that have not healed in memory. 'Flugt' shows a bit more of this. Skillfully directed by Jonas Poher Rasmussen, the film nominated in three categories of the 2022 Oscar tells the story of an Afghan man with a past he prefers to forget. After all, between his childhood and adolescence, he had to live with violent governments, the disappearance of his father, terrorism and, finally, a desperate escape to save his own skin. Without being able to show the identity of this man, and without any kind of support material beyond the testimony of this protagonist-interviewed, Rasmussen bets on animation. From sober strokes, the filmmaker reinvents and tells the story of this man from his memories and the imagistic perceptions of the creation of the feature, always protecting those portrayed. There is strength in the plot, showing how there are powerful stories to be told beyond the Western vision of our journey.
